Two Darrington-area boys dug a pit to keep warm overnight Saturday after they got lost during an outing on Gravel Creek.
The boys, ages 13 and 14, were reported missing to the Darrington Fire Department on Saturday at about 6 p.m. after they didn’t return home.
The fire department and family members began a search for the boys and contacted the Skagit County Sheriff's Office.
Personnel from Skagit County Search and Rescue, Snohomish County Search and Rescue and K9 from Pierce County Search and Rescue were deployed.
On Sunday morning at about 8 a.m., members of the Darrington/Arlington Water Rescue team began a search of Gravel Creek and the boys were located along the Sauk River. They had dug a pit and covered themselves with brush to stay warm during the night.
They were mildly hypothermic, but otherwise in good condition and were reunited with their families.
