OLYMPIA – A Lewis County fire that burned 200 acres in May of this year was started by an exploding target, The Washington State Department of Natural Resources said Wednesday.
Exploding targets are illegal on DNR-managed lands. There are no suspects, DNR said.
The fire started the afternoon of May 4. After 100 firefighters and two helicopters fought the blaze, it was contained to approximately 200 acres.
Two fires last summer - one near Entiat, and another smaller one near Cashmere - were also started by people shooting at targets that explode.
