Two cousins from the Seattle area were critically injured in a crash in Oregon on Friday.

The Washington Co. Sheriff's Office said at 6:01 p.m. Friday, deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash on SW Tonquin Road in the community of Sherwood.

When deputies arrived, they found that a Honda Civic traveling eastbound on SW Tonquin Road failed to negotiate a sweeping left curve. The Civic lost traction and slid sideways into the path of a Dodge Durango traveling westbound.

The Sheriff’s Office said the Civic was driven by Morgan McFarland, 25, with her cousin, Leah McFarland, 17, as the passenger.

They were returning to Seattle after visiting a relative in Sherwood. Both were critically injured and transported to local hospitals. Morgan's condition was reported Saturday as "critical"; Leah's condition was unknown.

The Durango was driven by Jorge Fausto-Gutierrez, 33, from Forest Grove. He was not injured.

Deputies believe speed was a factor in the crash. Members of the Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team were assisting with the investigation. The road was closed about seven hours for the investigation.
