SEATTLE- Known for bringing closure to families long wondering what happened to their loved ones... The king county sheriff's cold case squad could soon be shut down.
The Sheriff's spokesperson Sgt. Cindi West late Friday confirms funding for the squad will run out at the end of the year.
The money for the two detectives and one analyst had come from grants from the u.s. justice department. That money ran out over the summer.
The County Council came up with the money to keep the unit running through the end of the year. But there is no more after that.
There currently are no federal grants available, but the Sheriff's Office is hoping to get what's called an unsolicited grant approved. Keeping the unit together - continuing to bring answers to families.
