ARLINGTON, Wash. - Who would trash a church truck used to feed the homeless? That's what police and members of the Point Church in Arlington are asking.

For Pastor Mike Zachman and Patty Kellogg, it was a heartbreaking sight to see.

"They destroyed the trailer hitch," said Pastor Zachman, "They tried to start a fire, they cut the wires trying to steal the truck. They dumped all of the silverware and pancake mix and they also damaged our bus, sprayed it with fire extinguisher as well."

"I felt very sad because we had 60 70 guys waiting for breakfast this morning," said Kellogg.

Every Saturday for the last six years, volunteers have driven the van to Everett to feed close to 100 men and women.

"Here we are helping people and you know kids are out having some fun supposedly but they're taking away from people who literally need to eat right now, especially in this economy," said Pastor Zachman.

The church will now have to raise money for a new van. Pastor Zachman says he's OK with that. He's bothered that whoever did this would have such disregard for others.

"I just warn them to watch - if it doesn't catch with them on this side of eternity it will when they face their maker," he said.

The pastor estimates they lost about $500 to $600 worth of food. They haven't gotten an estimate on how much it will cost to repair the van, but they suspect it might cost less to just buy another one. If you have any information on who might have done this, call Arlington Police.

This is sad but even more sad for the people or person who did this. Scary to think of what their life must really be like to do something like this.....

Such a shame that some brats (assuming this was kids) would destroy something that was being used to help those in need.

Ked50: So does your god have power or not? I frequently see people thanking god for doing things that took a lot more influence than just stopping theft. All those things were surely the work of the lord, but when bad things happen, he wasn't able to stop them? Give me a break. Your argument is beyond ridiculous.

wow - always amazes me the people who cry "if there was a God, he wouldn't have allowed "this" to happen" (implying God is forcing humans to comply), are the same one's who constantly demand being able to choose to do whatever they want. Well, God is allowing people to choose to be a decent human being - or a jerk.

Pointless .. even if you don't like religion you obviously know this truck was used to feed people who really need it. Probably some rich spoiled brats that were bored and could use some 'correctional behavior' education as their parents didn't do it properly.

Maybe the vandals are upset that the Catholic Church keeps pulling out of adoption and other charity based programs in city after city because the government is trying to force them to help EVERYONE, not just the straight people in need. Regardless, the real question here shoudl be, why would anyone vandalize ANY vehicle, even if it just so happens to be owned by a church?

If there was a god, surely he (it) would have prevented this?
