Two children were removed from a Tacoma home early Tuesday morning after police found several animals, waste in the home and a lack of food.
It happened in the 800 block of South M Street.
Tacoma Police say a woman called 911 after hearing a female screaming. Officers arrived and found the children, ages 14 and 5, alone. There were three cats and a dog in the home.
The home was deemed unfit to live in, according to police. The children were placed with Child Protective Services.
Police said the mother claimed she was working at a friend’s house to earn some extra money to buy pet care items.
Animal Control was expected to respond later in the day.
