MAPLE VALLEY, Wash. -- Someone burglarized the home of a Maple Valley man who was attending his father's funeral Saturday. He now wonders if the criminals spotted an online obituary, then struck, knowing no one would be home during the funeral.
"To rob somebody is really bad, but to do it during a funeral, that's just a low-life," said burglary victim Kirk Ingertila. "That's about as low as you get."
It happened during a 3-hour window Saturday, while Ingertila and his family were attending his father's funeral in Issaquah.
The burglar or burglars took more than $16,000 worth of stuff -- mostly smaller items, like jewelry and small electronics, Ingertila said. They did not take large items, like the big-screen TV.
It's a reminder, police say, to have someone keep an eye on your house during funerals for close relatives.
Ingertila gave photos of some more unusual jewelry items to police and pawn shops, hoping they will identify some of the items. His message to whoever is responsible:
"One, I wish they'd return it," he said. "Two, you guys are low."
