BREMERTON, Wash. – Bremerton Police plan to arrest two people tied to the accidental shooting of a classmate at Armin Jahr Elementary school.
Police searched the home of the boy's mother and say they found several unsecured loaded guns.
Police have now issued warrants for Douglas Bauer and Jamie Lee Passmore.
Passmore is the mother of the 9-year-old boy who accidently shot Amina Kocer-Bowman when a loaded gun in his backpack discharged.
The boy took a 45 caliber semiautomatic handgun with him to school that day. Bremerton police say that gun came from the home the boy's mother shared Douglas Bauer.
A search of Bauer's home in Allyn uncovered several more guns, including a loaded 9 millimeter pistol sitting on a desk and a loaded 12 gauge shotgun was found leaning against the wall next to a nightstand.
Police say the boy's mother kept a handgun in the glove box of her car.
Both Passmore and Bauer face one count of second degree unlawful possession of a firearm.
Amina Kocer-Bowman, who was hit in the abdomen when the gun went off, remains in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center. She’s undergone five surgeries.
Police say both Bauer and Passmore are out of state right now, and are expected back home later this month. At this point, they do not believe they are a flight risk.
