There are just a couple of days left until Christmas and many people will spend the weekend wracking their brains for perfect gifts, or wandering aimlessly through stores and malls like extras in “The Walking Dead.”

Before you impulsively buy the first thing you see within your price range, stop. Take a deep breath. And look at this list of gift ideas from Seattle-area merchants. What’s more – some of the items actually give back, meaning you can feel doubly good about your gift choice.

Here are just a few ideas. Please share your favorite shops/gift ideas for last minute shopping!

glassybaby - "given to fly"

glassybaby – These candle holders are simple yet stylish. Plus, 10% from each sale goes to a non-profit. To date, glassybaby has donated $1,544,305 (as in a little over $1.5 million) to a number of non-profit organizations. Iconic rock band Pearl Jam has teamed up with glassybaby to benefit several charities: Given to Fly votive holder (above) benefits the band’s Vitalogy Foundation, which supports non-profits “doing commendable work in the fields of community health, the environment, arts and education, and social change.”  glassybaby has also introduced a line of “drinkers” – tumblers in a variety of colors that can handle cold and hot drinks. 10% from sales of “drinkers” will benefit the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Pretty Peacock

Pretty Peacock Jewelry – Hand-crafted jewelry that feels as good as it looks. Choose from one of their many designs or contact them to help bring your design to life.

Seattle “Shop Small” initiative “pop-up mall” – A number of small merchants from the greater Seattle area set up shop at Alki Arts at the Harbor Steps in downtown Seattle all month, featuring gift ideas following several themes:  Home Décor & Design, Fashion & Beauty, Man Cave, and The Perfect Gift. Click on each theme to learn more about the businesses that appeared on New Day to share some of their unique offerings.

Jordan Pacitti (photo credit: Angela Sterling)

Jordan Samuel Beauty – Former Pacific Northwest Ballet star Jordan Pacitti (above) transitioned from the boards to the spa, with help from PNB’s “Second Stage” program. Now, he’s fully come into his own with a line of skincare products that nourish the skin from the inside out (with NO chemicals or artificial ingredients) and an aesthetic practice that offers the best facials in town (ask for his “Jo-Tox” facial to ease holiday stress!)

Kari Gran's Lip Whip

Kari Gran Cosmetics – Kari and her longtime friend Lisa Strain are the creative minds behind this line of eco-skincare products that bring out the best in everyone’s complexion. We’re addicted to her Lip Whip (above).

Copperworks Distilling Company - Flask

Copperworks Distilling Company – Seattle’s newest distillery specializes in gin and vodka. Stop by their Alaskan Way location to pick up a bottle or one of their new flasks (above), which you can fill with your favorite spirit, soft drink or water for a stylish drink.

Chef John Howie "Steak to Go"

John Howie Steak – A gift certificate to John Howie Steak, or any of Chef Howie’s restaurants (Seastar Restaurant & Raw Bar, Sport Restaurant & Bar) will be a welcome sight on Christmas morning. Home cooks will also enjoy “Steak to Go,” which arms you with everything you need to recreate some of Chef’s mouthwatering steak meals at home (including the steak!)

Metropolitan Grill's Holiday Meal Kits

Metropolitan Grill – A gift card to any of Seattle’s fine restaurants will light up any face over the holidays. Like Chef John Howie, Metropolitan Grill also offers a way for you to recreate a delicious meal at home. Check out the Met’s Prime Rib (serves 8) or Prime Dry Aged Chateaubriand Dinner for Two kits.

Cupcake Royale's Cupcaking Kit

Cupcake Royale – CR helped launch the cupcake craze in Seattle. Now, to celebrate its 10th anniversary, they’re giving you the opportunity to practice “legalized frostitution” in the privacy of your own home. Pick up a dozen cupcakes or check out their merchandise, including their new Cupcaking Kit (above), which includes everything you need for a baking session that’s sure to be fun for friends and family. Watch owner Jodi Hall and Nicki Kerbs, Cupcake Royale’s Director of Operations, give Margaret a lesson on how to frost the CR way.

Top Pot Doughnuts - holiday cheer

Top Pot Doughnuts – Our favorite sweet way to start the day. A gift card for a dozen doughnuts, a pound of their special coffee blend and a mug make a wonderful stocking stuffer. Or pick up some treats to tempt Santa on Christmas Eve.

Seattle Mariners – The M’s store has everything you need to help the super-fan in your family prepare for the new season, with a new skipper (Lloyd McClendon) at the helm and a new slugger (Robinson Cano) in the lineup. Click here to check out their holiday gift and ticket specials.

Hockey! – The chatter about Seattle possibly getting an NHL expansion team has been heating up, but you don’t have to wait until 2015 to enjoy hockey. Along with a number of youth leagues, check out two teams in the top-tier Western Hockey League (responsible for drafting a large number of players to the NHL).  The Seattle Thunderbirds (alumni include current NHL’ers: Patrick Marleau/San Jose Sharks, Brenden Dillon/Dallas Stars, Jim O’Brien/Ottawa Senators and Thomas Hickey/New York Islanders) and Everett Silvertips (alumni include current NHL’ers: Ryan Murray/Columbus Blue Jackets and Radko Gudas/Tampa Bay Lightning) have special holiday ticket offers perfect for everyone – from the most passionate fan to curious novice.
