Joshua Showers, Regional Sales Manager for Community Health Plan of Washington, and Dr. Evan Oakes, Associate Medical Director at HealthPoint, joined Margaret to talk about how the Affordable Care Act affects preventive health care for those who are looking to buy insurance under the ACA, as well as those who receive health insurance coverage through their employers.

Preventive care benefits that plans must cover for adults- this includes blood pressure, cholesterol, depression, and diabetes screenings. Immunization vaccines will also be covered for Hepatitis A and B, flu shots, measles, mumps, tetanus, HPV and many more.

For women, preventive care includes breast cancer screening, osteoporosis and specific care for pregnant women among others.

Children’s preventive care also includes behavioral health assessments, autism screening, and developmental screenings among others.
