Seattle's Classical KING FM 98.1 radio station set out to find the area's most talented young performers. The result is a contest featuring musicians age 6 to 20. The finalists perform on the KING FM's show "Northwest Focus." Host Sean MacLean joined Margaret to talk about the contest, and introduce us to two finalists from last year's competition:

  • 13 year old Millicent McFall performed a piece composed by Robert Schumann
  • 13 year old Daniel Oslin performed a piece composed by Frederic Chopin

After they performed, Millicent and Daniel joined Margaret and Sean to talk about their already accomplished careers and summer plans (Both have been invited to the Kaufman Center International Youth Piano Competition in June 2013, in New York City. Millicent will also travel to Germany, where she will perform at the Robert Schumann Haus in Zwickau).

Finalists for this year's Young Artist Awards competition will perform on "NW Focus" at 8:00 pm in the Classical KING-FM studio on Friday, May 3 and Friday May 10. Two winners will be announced on Tuesday, May 14. To watch videos of the finalists' performances and vote for your favorite, visit the contest website by clicking here.
