According to the most recent report by the National Center for Health Statistics, the rate of twin births rose 77% from 1980 to 2009. Additionally, one out of every four births from IVF treatments will result in twins.
Dr. Joan Friedman is the author of a new book called "The Same But Different: How Twins Can Live, Love, and Learn to be Individuals." Dr. Friedman herself is a twin, the mother of twins, and is a psychotherapist who specializes in twin issues. She stopped by the show today to discuss her new book and the importance of research in medicine and behavioral science of twins.
Dr. Friedman will be the featured speaker at the first annual "Twinfest" in Seattle, at the UW Husky Union Building (HUB), this Saturday from noon to 5pm. The event, which is hosted by the UW Twin Registry, is expecting to draw out crowds of up to 300 twins!
