Seattle Mayor Ed Murray has served in state politics since 1995, when he was appointed to fill a vacant seat in the State House of Representatives. Twelve years later, he was elected to the State Senate. During his time in Olympia, he sponsored and supported a number of groundbreaking initiatives, including one that legalized same sex marriage in our state.
Last year, Ed Murray defeated Mike McGinn to become Seattle's 53rd mayor. He also married his long-time partner, Michael Shiosaki, the Planning and Development Division Director of Seattle Parks and Recreation.The Mayor and First Gentleman opened up to Margaret about their relationship and careers, as well as the path each took to come out to family members and the public. Mayor Murray also talked about Kathleen O'Toole, his nominee to take over as Seattle Police Chief, as well as his vision for the City of Seattle.
