A new ordinance is in effect on mercer island holding parents legally responsible for underage drinking in their homes, even if they're not home when it happens - and even if they're unaware that it's happening. Critics say it's too drastic and punishes the wrong party - but others believe drinking among teens is at epidemic levels and requires more serious consequences to encourage more parental responsibility. Today we're joined by the chief of adolescent medicine at Seattle Children’s Hospital, doctor Leslie Walker, lead coordinator of Prevention Wins, Inga Manskopf, and parent of a HS teen and member of the coalition with Prevention Wins, Carolyn Bernhard.
