The Olympia Film Festival paid tribute to a man who has helmed many popular and critically acclaimed movies, including, The Right Stuff, a groundbreaking film about test pilots for the first American space flight, adapted from the bestselling book from Tom Wolfe. The Right Stuff was nominated for 8 academy awards in 1983 and won four. Director Philip Kaufman was also nominated for Writers Guild and Directors Guild awards for this film, to be followed by many other honors for this talented director and screenwriter. We were honored to have him on the show today! He and Margaret chatted about the influence writer Anais Nin had on his filmmaking career, as well as giving actor Daniel Day Lewis his first leading role (in The Unbearable Lightness of Being) and recognizing the actor's amazing abilities even then. They also chatted about the challenges that came with filming The Right Stuff.
