Arthritis is a disease that affects 46 million Americans every day. It's a chronic and often debilitating condition that affects the joints. Right now there isn't a cure for arthritis, but major advances have been made in treating the disease.
Linda Sloate was an active young mother of three when she was first diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis more than twenty years ago. The pain was so great that she had trouble lifting her own kids. Her participation in one of the first clinical studies for the arthritis drug Enbrel has so far proven to be a success for her. The drug is now on the market and she's a grandmother who can play with her grandkids with no pain.
Ongoing research to understand rheumatic diseases like arthritis are key to finding cures. Coming up on August 23-29 is the Boeing Classic golf tournament at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge. Proceeds from this PGA event will go to the Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason to help study causes and cures to eliminate a range of auto-immune diseases, and help more patients like Linda. Tickets are $20 per day, or you can buy multi-day packages. For more information go to www.boeingclassic.com.
