Washington state is home to many fabulous wineries, but have you ever wondered how to get started? A unique program at South Seattle Community College can help.
The Northwest Wine Academy has helped people pursue their passion for winemaking, teaching every aspect of the business.
Regina Daigneault from Northwest Wine Academy joined Margaret to shared a brief overview of the program, including a preview of her Sensory Evaluation Class. Academy graduate Steve Wells, who's also a member of the Microsoft Alumni Network, shared his experience with the program, which led to work at several wineries and a novel, "Killer Cuvee," which takes place at a winery in Walla Walla.

South Seattle Community College is hosting its annual "Gifts from the Earth Auction" this Saturday (January 26th) at the Jerry M. Brockery Center on campus (6000 16th Ave. SW). The event runs from 5:00 - 9:30 pm. For more information about the event, please click here.

John Patterson -Founder/Winemaker, Patterson Cellars - Woodinville
John Patterson, along with his father Jack Patterson, worked together on their first vintages. Jack started in wine production as a cellar hand for a local winery during crush season starting in 1984.
Tom Stangeland-Founder/Winemaker, Cloudlift Cellars - Georgetown
When he graduated from the Northwest Wine Academy, Tom, a gifted fine furniture craftsman, quickly realized that to fully explore his new craft, he needed to make more wine. He already had a shop space, so Tom started Cloudlift Cellars.
Kit Singh-Founder/Winemaker, Lauren Ashton Cellars - Woodinville
Kit Singh, a dentist by profession, explored Europe's most known wine regions in France as well as spending time in Napa and Sonoma where he truly discovered the enjoyment of wine. In 2009, Kit channeled his genius of chemistry and deep-rooted scientific background with his appreciation of wine and created his own brand called Lauren Ashton Cellars, a name inspired by the winemaker's two children, Ashley Lauren and Ashton Troy
Steve Wells-Author/Winemaker/Microsoft Alumni, Overlake Media - Bellevue
A graduate of the wine production program in 2009, Steve worked at a number of wineries including DeLille Cellars. Steve chose to combine his writing skills with his knowledge of winemaking and just published his debut novel, Killer Cuvée (available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle)
Christine Go-Wine Marketing, Vinum Wine Importing - Georgetown
After graduating from the Wine Sales and Marketing program, Christine has worked in retail sales and wine distribution with a variety of firms. She currently manages special projects for Vinum Wine Importing.
