More than three decades ago an award was created to recognize individuals who exemplify the best in community service. This morning, at the annual Jefferson Awards breakfast ceremony, five people from Washington state were honored for their outstanding public service. Out of the five state winners, former soldier Julia Sheriden was named the national nominee who will represent Washington at a national awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. in June. Julia was recognized for her work fighting for the rights of military veterans.
