Jazz tenor saxophonist and composer Anton Schwartz's newest recording, "Flash Mob," is climbing the charts and garnering rave reviews from fans and critics alike. He and acclaimed jazz pianist and composer Eric Reed performed the song "Swamp Thang," from "Flash Mob," then joined Margaret to talk about their individual projects, as well as their work helping young musicians cultivate their passion for jazz's rich history, while expanding their own creative horizons to help shape the future of the genre.
Eric also shared his reaction to the incredible praise he received for his CD "The Baddest Monk," a tribute to jazz legend Thelonious Monk, from Monk's own son TS, who wrote: "Monk is smiling... Your love and respect for my father oozes from every track. You really get it!!" Eric's next CD is also a tribute, entitled "The Adventerous Monk." It's scheduled to be released on March 27.
The Anton Schwartz Quintet featuring Eric Reed and Dominic Farnacci will perform tonight and tomorrow night (Tuesday & Wednesday, March 11 & 12) at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley (2033 6th Avenue, Seattle. Phone: 206-441-9729).
