Dos and Don'ts of wearing Pastels

Pastels are back this spring, and they are bolder than ever. While many women love the idea of wearing color (many are desperate to get away from black and grey), it can be intimidating to embrace pastels. Here are some tips and guidelines to follow so you can look chic--and not like a marshmallow Peep!

LOOK #1:

DO mix different pastel colors together. This season is all about pairing light shades of pink, blue, green and yellow for a fresh look.

DON'T overdue yellow. Pale yellow is the hardest color to wear, so it's best worn as an accessory (shoes, belt) or on bottom.

Featured items: MNG by Mango belted dress ($75, JC Penney)

LOOK #2:

DON'T be afraid to wear light pastel hues with darker colors

DO make your pastels more serious by pairing with black (or navy or grey).

Featured items: Bar iii blouse and pants and Vince Camuto Jacket (Macy's), faux ostrich bag ($29.99, Target).

LOOK #3:

DON'T wear the same pastel color head to toe

DO wear different shades of the same basic color (e.g. pair pale mint green with a darker kelly green).

Featured items: Coral top ($24.99, Target), pastel pink jeans ($22, JC Penney), coral clutch ($12.99, Target).

LOOK #4:

DO wear pastels in sophisticated and simple silhouettes

DON'T make the look overly cutesy with lots of ruffles, pleats, ribbons or lace.

Featured items: Limon tank, green cropped jeans and accessories (Target), black blazer (Macy's).
