For more than three decades, Fred Hutch has led the way in innovative research to find a cure for cancer. The work they do each day has led to significant breakthroughs in saving thousands of lives, including the emerging field of immunotherapy, which uses one's own immune system to fight cancer.
Dr. Fred Appelbaum, director of Fred Hutch's Clinical Research Division, and Dr. Cassian Yee, a member of the Clinical Research Division and a pioneer in the use of immunotherapy to treat tumors, explain the procedure and their research. Also joining them is Gardiner Vinnedge, a cancer survivor who was successfully treated for advanced melanoma with immunotherapy and is now in long-term remission.
