Darcy Camden Tips on Caring for your Clothes:

#1. Jeans
  • DON'T over-wash your jeans. Denim is an extremely durable fabric, and over-washing will fade your jeans.
  • DO keep your jeans looking new by wearing them at least 5 times before washing. When you wash turn jeans inside out. I recommend Woolite dark for dark/black jeans.
#2. Wool sweaters
  • DON'T machine wash or put in a dryer
  • DO hand wash in warm water with a delicates detergent like Woolite OR baby shampoo. Lay flat to dry. Remove "pilling" with a Bic razor, fine grain sandpaper or a sweater brick (Amazon.com).
#3. Suiting
  • DON'T machine wash. Most suit pants and blazers have some wool, which will warp in a washing machine or dryer.
  • DO use at-home dry cleaning products like Dryel or Dry Cleaner's Secret after every 1-2 wears to remove wrinkles and refresh. Take suiting to professional dry cleaners once every 6-8 wears (approx. once a season).
#4. Whites
  • DON'T bleach or iron--bleaching and iron will actually yellow white cotton.
  • DO use oxygen whiteners like Oxy-clean to brighten your whites.
#5. Wrinkled clothing
  • DON'T take something to the dry cleaner just because it's wrinkled
  • DO buy a garment steamer (starting $30.00). Steaming is much easier on fabrics, because it won't scorch or burn your clothes. I think everyone should own a garment steamer, it's the single best purchase you can make to care for your clothing at home!

Make your own quick fix garment care kit!
3 items everyone should have:
-Tide pen for stain removal
-Wrinkle release spray
-Lint roller
