She's the daughter of House Minority Leader, Nancy Pelosi, but Alexandra Pelosi has made a significant name in her own right as a former NBC News producer and now respected filmmaker. Her documentary called "Homeless: The Motel Kids of Orange County" follows the lives of children growing up in decrepit motel rooms as their parents struggle to stay afloat. It's a heartbreaking film about the working poor, that first aired on HBO and is about to be released on DVD.
You can attend a screening of the film tonight at 7pm at SIFF Cinema (321 Mercer St) that will be followed by a Q&A with Alexandra and moderated by KUOW's Steve Scher in preparation for the community's One Night Count of Homelessness on Jan. 28. Tickets to the movie are free but you do have to RSVP for first-come, first-served seating.
