There's a team at the University of Washington whose members let their hands and feet do the talking. The Huskies Boxing team is made up of men and women who are learning about much more than jabs, hooks and knockout punches. In addition to competing in matches around the region and country, they're learning life skills, thanks, in part to the approach taken by Head Coach Christopher Mendez. He and Assistant Coach Charles McClain joined guest host Meeghan Black of "Evening Magazine," to talk about what makes their program different (team members must maintain at least a 3.4 GPA; they undergo exercises in leadership skills as well as athletic moves and are accountable to each other.

Team members Taylor Williams, who's pursuing a degree in education and Albert Ta, who's pursuing a career in law also joined Meeghan to share what they've learned about themselves since joining the UW Boxing team, then demonstrated a few quick drills with help from Coach Ricardo Acuna, before teaching Meeghan a few moves!

The UW Boxing team will hold a four-week "boot camp" style tryouts for students interested in joining the team beginning Wednesday, October 16 at 6:30pm at the South IMA tennis courts. Click here for more information.

Here's a list of upcoming fundraising events:

Meet the Husky Boxing Team - Friday, November 8 from 6:00pm to closing at Finn MacCool's in Seattle, and Saturday, November 9 from 4:00pm to closing at Harmon Brewery on Pacific Avenue in Tacoma. Each eatery will donate a portion of drink sales to the team.
