Seattle Seahawks tailback Chris Carson is up and running following a setback last week in his rehab from ankle surgery.

Carson, a seventh-round pick out of Oklahoma State in 2017, emerged as Seattle’s featured back in September, recording 49 carries for 208 rushing yards and seven receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown in four games.

However, the 23-year-old went down with an ankle injury in Week 4 against the Indianapolis Colts. He was subsequently placed on injured reserve when it was revealed he suffered a broken ankle that required surgery.

After Seahawks coach Pete Carroll revealed earlier this month that Carson was “unbelieveably ahead” of schedule, the rookie running back turned his ankle before he could return to the practice field.

“It was a bit of a setback, but he’s back working again so it wasn’t that big of a deal, but still we were hoping we’d have none of those in the process,” Carroll said.

Despite the minor hiccup, Carroll said Carson is able to run again following the setback and may be able to practice as soon as next week.

“He’s running again,” Carroll said. “He’s running and doing all the rehab stuff and he may have had a chance to be a little bit–I don’t know if he would have been able to play this week anyway, but he had a chance. We were entertaining the thought. So that probably goes to next week is how we think of it.”

While Carson’s reported progress is good news for Seattle, that doesn’t necessarily mean he will return this year.

With only three games remaining in the regular season and the Seahawks still vying for a Wild Card spot, it could be tough for Carson to make a turn around in that timeframe.
