Imagine the Seattle Seahawks facing Peyton Manning twice next season.
The L.A. Rams have reportedly had internal discussions about bringing in the future Hall of Famer if he decides against retirement after Super Bowl 50, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday.
Manning is under contract for one more season in Denver, but it’s widely expected he won’t play for the Broncos in 2016 even if he opts against retirement.
Quarterback has been a position of inconsistency for the Rams the past few years. Former No. 1 draft pick Sam Bradford missed most of 2013 and all of 2014 with knee injuries. The Rams brought in Nick Foles last season, but he ultimately lost the job to Case Keenum.
From an experience and football intelligence standpoint, Manning would be an immediate upgrade. But he’ll be 40 next season and his physical skills have noticeably declined since midway through the 2014 season. A foot injury cost him six games late in the season.
The plus for Manning is that he’d be moving to a similar situation with the Rams as he has now with the Broncos. They have a strong defense and rookie Todd Gurley has bolstered the Rams running game.
The Rams, a NFC West rival of the Seahawks, will move to L.A. in 2016 after 21 years in St. Louis.
