Washington drivers rank among worst in U.S.

Washington went from ninth to fifth worst since 2016.
Seattle police are handing out $136 fines for illegal use of transit lanes.

If you've ever thought Washington drivers are particularly bad, you're not alone. Drivers in our state have been ranked fifth worst in the country.

Seattle-based QuoteWizard determined the rankings based on data about car accidents, speeding tickets, DUIs, citations and fatalities from the Federal Highway Administration.

California drivers were ranked the worst, followed by Minnesota, Utah, South Carolina and finally Washington.

Washington went from ninth to fifth worst since 2016. Specifically, Washington's accident rate jumped from 33rd worst all the way to 14th worst since last year. QuoteWizard researchers said the influx of transplants to Washington might be a contributing factor.
