Amazon Spheres, other Seattle landmarks lit up in purple to mark Special Olympics countdown

Amazon’s Spheres are already a head turner on a normal day, thanks to the unique architectural nature of the plant-filled orbs at the base of the company’s corporate towers. Friday night, the buildings really put on a show in downtown Seattle.

As part of a celebration marking 100 days until Seattle hosts the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games this summer, Amazon turned the Spheres purple with a special lighting display. Purple is the primary color of the USA Games, and the tech giant is a presenting sponsor for the closing ceremony.

Amazon’s effort was one of many across the city. The Allen Institute, CenturyLink Field, Columbia Center, the Museum of History and Industry, the Great Wheel, the SR 520 Bridge and other landmarks were also bathed in purple.
