Meet Heather Hansen, this week's Mom on the Move. This busy mom of four is the owner of My Princess Party and is passionate about Wiliams Syndrome. Find out why.
My name is Heather Hansen. I married my elementary sweetheart 13 years ago. We own the Old School Bagel Cafes. We have four amazing children- two boys and two girls.
I started a home-based business 5 years ago called My Princess Party. We specialize in character entertainment for children's birthday parties ages 3-8 years old. In my former life, I taught elementary and pre-school and I currently work in the pre-school department at my church. I first decided to start My Princess Party when I saw the fascination and excitement of my children's birthday parties where their favorite characters celebrated with them. They have such vivid memories of those special birthdays. The sparkle in little eyes and the contagious smiles make this the most fulfilling career imaginable.
Having two little girls, I found there was not much to offer in the "Princess" realm in Oklahoma, so I decided to make it available as a party option in our area. It has been so much fun!
I also coach my daughter's special olympics swim team, the Edmond Stingrays! My daughter has Williams Syndrome which affects 1 in 10,000. It is a genetic condition characterized by medical problems, including cardiovascular disease, developmental delays and learning disabilities.
This past May, I coordinated a 1 mile walk/ 5k run for our national awareness week. It was held at Mitch Park in Edmond on Saturday, May 14th. You can find more information on the walk at http://www.walk4williams.org. Just look for for Edmond Oklahoma. Hopefully it will become an annual event!
