Marysville Starbucks 'pay it forward' chain ends

01:28 PM PST on Friday, December 21, 2007

MARYSVILLE, Wash. – The chain has been broken.

A "pay it forward" campaign of kindness at a Marysville Starbucks officially ended early Friday morning.

The mini-movement at Starbucks at 3725 116th Street NE started at 8 a.m. Wednesday when a woman paid for her drink then offered to pay for the next person in line - just to wish her a Merry Christmas. That person in turn did the same for the customer behind them, and so on, and so on, and so on.

"It's wild," said Gie Mondahar, customer No. 170.

Since it started Wednesday morning, 1,112 people participated.

A shift supervisor says the chain ended at 6:20 a.m. Friday. Some customers are still buying others lattes and frappucinos, but it's not as consistent.

This isn't the first time this has happened.  At a Starbucks in Pampano Beach Florida last week, one man decided that instead of getting mad at the guy honking behind him, he'd buy him a latte.
