SEATTLE -- Seattle police and fire responded quickly to a man who jumped onto the monorail tracks at Olive Way and Stewart Street Monday morning.

The incident started at about 10 a.m. The man was off the track about 20 minutes later.

A Seattle Center spokesperson says the man jumped over the rail and was on the beam that the blue train runs on.

Seattle Police say the man was running back and forth on the tracks and even laid down at one point.

"We determined that the gentleman was deaf. One of the officers was able to sign to him, communicate to him. He actually came under his own power,” said Renee Witt, Seattle Police spokesperson.

The man was taken to the hospital and will likely undergo a mental evaluation. It's not immediately clear why the man jumped onto the tracks.

The monorail trains were shut down during the incident but are now back in service.
