Stray bullet narrowly misses girl in bedroom
05:57 PM PST on Monday, December 1, 2008
OLYMPIA, Wash. – The family of a nine-year-old girl is terrified by an apparent random act of violence after a bullet flew through her bedroom.
"I'm mad… and I'm scared,” said little Jodi Ahrendt. "It was like boom!."
Jodi was showered with glass.
"Nine times out of ten she's usually in her bed,” said Jodi’s father, Aaron Jackson.
He says Jodi is lucky she wasn’t in the top bunk. The single bullet just cleared her mattress before flying through her wall, eventually lodging across the hall above the bathroom door.

Jackson has tried to keep his wife and three children calm, but it’s been rough on him too. Jackson just returned from two tours in Afghanistan and thought he didn’t have to think about gunfire again.
"This was the last place I would think a bullet would be coming through where I live. In my house in Washington,” said Jackson.
Detectives don’t think anyone in the family was a target. Jackson hopes it was an accident or some kids playing around. While the family wants justice, Jackson also wants an explanation. Otherwise, he’s going to have a hard time making his family feel safe again.
"Now the kids are terrified. That's tough for us, because now, they're hovering under me and my wife,” said Jackson.
Jodi says she won’t go in that room anymore. She, her big sister and baby brother are all sleeping in mom and dad’s room now.
