A Seattle Police cruiser sits outside a building in South Seattle where a worker was electrocuted on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008.

SEATTLE – A worker is dead after being electrocuted at a business Thursday.

The Seattle Fire Department says it happened around 2 p.m. at Saint-Gobain Containers in the 5800 block of East Marginal Way S. It happened on a platform outside the building.

In a statement, the company said the female worker was carrying out electrical maintenance, but that it’s too early to speculate as to what happened.

"This is a terrible accident and our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this difficult time. Our priority is to offer what support we can to them, and to our other employees who have lost a respected and well-liked co-worker," said company spokesperson Gina Behrman.

The plant in Seattle employs approximately 415 people in the manufacturing of glass containers for the food and wine markets.
