EVERETT, Wash. - Police recently raided five homes scattered across Snohomish County as part of a major drug bust that netted thousands of marijuana plants, cash and guns.

It's an investigation that took years.

Barbara Cashen watched the other morning as police dismantled a large marijuana grow operation in the basement of a nearby home.

"To have that on my street is pretty scary," she said.

Officers hauled out more than 500 marijuana plants. As Cashen later found out, it was just one of five grow operations in the county raided by police.

At a Lynnwood duplex police discovered more than 1,000 plants growing in the basement.

And at an Edmonds home, they found a complex irrigation system and nearly 2,000 marijuana plants. Neighbors had no idea.

"That was a complete surprise to us, right across the street," neighbor Jordan Thompson said.

The grow operation happening at a Lynnwood home was sophisticated. Someone took the time to dig out underneath the home, pour a slab and build rooms. Inside they were growing some 600 marijuana plants.

Yesterday a grand jury indicted nine people and investigators believe some of them were working together.

Some of the suspects who were indicted are also being investigated for money laundering.

Two of the suspects still haven't been caught.
