Video: Border patrol official being investigated

BLAINE, Wash. - The KING 5 Investigators have uncovered that one of the highest ranking officials in the U.S. Border Patrol in Washington state is being investigated for alleged sex crimes.

The Border Patrol in Blaine is scrambling tonight after hearing their No. 2 in charge, Deputy Chief Patrol Agent Joe Giuliano, is expected to be arrested.

Giuliano has spearheaded many high profile issues for the agency, which makes sure our borders are safe at all points of entry. He was the public spokesperson for the controversial Anacortes ferry spot checks instituted this year.

In 2005 he told KING 5 about citizens helping the federal agents to keep an eye on the border.

"We would encourage anyone to contact us if and when something is amiss," he said.

The KING 5 Investigators have found that Giuliano has been under investigation for unlawful sex with a teenager. Whatcom County sheriff's deputies have removed firearms from his home.

And in a sudden move today, the 55-year-old put in a request for retirement.

Giuliano is deputy chief of the Blaine sector of the Border Patrol, which services all of Alaska, Oregon and Western Washington.

He has been with the Border Patrol for more than 20 years.
