Matt Finley of Westport tosses beached squid onto the rocks at the Westport boat basin.
ABERDEEN, Wash. - Humboldt squid, which usually swim in the Pacific south of California, have turned up off the Washington coast.
A number of dead squid have washed onto rocks at the boat basin in Westport.
Because of the large number of squid available, the Aberdeen Daily World reports the state Fish and Wildlife Department has lifted its five-squid daily limit.
The paper reports that hundreds of dying squid clogged the marina several years ago and more than 1,000 squid washed up on the Long Beach Peninsula in the fall of 2004.
