Border Patrol hiring in Seattle

09:51 AM PDT on Monday, October 13, 2008

Associated Press

SEATTLE - With the economy slowing and unemployment growing, jobs are still available along the border.

Customs and Border Protection is looking for agents to guard the borders with Mexico and Canada.

The agency held a recruiting event Saturday in Seattle and at Fort Lewis.

Agent Randy Williams says veterans make up more than a third of new recruits.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports starting pay for agents is more than $36,000a year, and they can earn up to $70,000 after three years, with federal health and retirement benefits.
