Police: Longview mom gunned down by daughter's ex-boyfriend

04:58 PM PDT on Tuesday, October 7, 2008

By TERESA BLACKMAN, kgw.com Staff

LONGVIEW, Wash. -- The parents of a Longview teen were shot by the girl's former boyfriend in a revenge attack Monday morning and the mother died, according to police.

Kathy and Bob Tubbs were shot outside their home in the 3200 block of Oak Street, just after 9 a.m. Both were rushed to St. John's Hospital where Kathy, 45, later died, police said.

Hospital officials said Bob Tubbs was in "satisfactory condition" as of late Tuesday morning.

Police captured the suspect less than a mile away after a short manhunt. He was later identified as 18-year-old Anthony Michael James Scott.

A report in The Longview Daily News said that the couple's daughter had been dating the suspect and had recently broken up with him. Then the 19-year-old came to the Tubbs’ home with a gun and shot the Kathy and Bob Tubbs.

St. Helens Elementary School was put in lockdown around 9 a.m. because it was located near the shooting scene, but the lockdown was lifted before 10:30 a.m., according to school officials.

Scott was booked in the jail on murder and attempted murder charges and his bail was set at $1 million.
