Owners charged in Gig Harbor pit bull attack

08:36 AM PDT on Friday, October 5, 2007

Associated Press

TACOMA, Wash. - The owners of two pit bull dogs that attacked a woman in her home near Gig Harbor have been charged with owning dangerous dogs.

If convicted of the felony charges the woman and her son could be sentenced to up to five years in prison. Charges were filed Thursday in Tacoma against 45-year-old Shellie Rae Wilson and her 18-year-old Zachary J. Martin.

In the attack Aug. 21 Sue Gorman was mauled and suffered numerous bite wounds as she tried to protect a Jack Russell terrier in her home from the pit bulls.

One of the pit bulls, Tank, has been euthanized and the other dog, Betty, is held at the Tacoma-Pierce County Humane Society as evidence.
