SEATTLE – Facing record ridership, King County Metro Transit has announced plans to add more buses and more routes.

The improvements will reach from Seattle to North Bend and Kent.

"These county-wide improvements include more bus trips, better frequency and routing changes that make connections more convenient," said Ron Sims, King County Executive.

Metro says it will add 22 new buses on some of the most crowded routes, which include routes to Queen Anne, Capitol Hill, First Hill and Ballard.

Two new routes in the county will provide service between Seattle and North Bend and Seattle and Kent.

Money for these improvements had already been earmarked from a 2006 one-tenth of a cent sales tax.

Two new routes in the county will provide service between Seattle and North Bend and Seattle and Kent.

But with Metro facing a $70 million deficit, bus fares will go up. The King County Council will decide how much. It's looking like a quarter increase soon and then another quarter next year.

The new, improved service begins on Saturday.
