Associated Press

Sue Gorman was attacked Aug. 20 in her bedroom by two dogs that entered through a sliding door.

GIG HARBOR, Wash. - A woman who was attacked by pit bull dogs in her home near Gig Harbor last month had a big surprise when she returned home Sunday.

Friends gave Sue Gorman a home makeover.

Volunteers painted the home and installed new carpet, appliances and furniture. They also removed overgrown trees from her yard and built a fence.

The 59-year-old Gorman was attacked Aug. 20 in her bedroom by two dogs that entered through a sliding door. Looking at her remodeled home, she said she didn't know she so many friends.

About 250 people worked on the home with the project coordinated by two organizations, the Safe Streets Campaign and Need-a-Break Services.

Need-a-Break's Julie Bodine estimated the value of the work and donated materials for Gorman's home at $100,000.
