SEATTLE - The family of a missing elderly man with dementia confirms that his body was found in a wrecked car near Seattle's Discovery Park.

Investigators say it looks like Hilmer Jager drove over a steep embankment and the car then flipped over in the bottom of a ravine.

A group walking in the park Sunday evening noticed the car and called police.

The 79-year-old Jager disappeared Aug. 22 when he drove away from home to visit a friend in the Maltby area of Snohomish County.

Jager worked more than 30 years as a letter carrier in north Seattle neighborhoods.

On Monday, his family thanked police and searchers.

"You've all been wonderful and I thank you for looking for my dad," said Jager's daughter, Erica Bauman.
