SEATTLE - After several days of scorching weather in Western Washington, temperatures plummeted on Monday and heavy rain and wind were in the forecast.

The storm moved in Tuesday afternoon, bringing steady rain, gusty winds and the threat of flooding and power outages.

"Basically it's the type of storm we would see in late September, early October," said KING 5 meteorologist Rich Marriott. He said the storm will dump a good amount of rainfall on the Puget Sound area.

"Anywhere from a quarter of an inch to an inch, and up to two inches on the coast," he said.

It will be breezy at times on Wednesday, with winds in the Puget Sound area in the 15-25 mph range with higher gusts.

Marriott said there are two problems that can come with a storm at this time of year.

"In the urban areas there are probably a lot of drains that are plugged so we could see some ponding," he said. "And also, with the wind, we have new growth on trees so if one of them comes down we could see some power outages, especially north of Seattle."

Seattle Public Utilities officials are asking residents to clear debris from street drains at risk of clogging, and to stay out of low-lying areas prone to flooding.

SPU says drainage crews will be on emergency standby during the storm. To report a flooding problem, call 206-386-1800.

After pressure builds on Thursday, showers will decrease and a more typical weather pattern with resume, with sunshine and temperatures in the mid-70s for Friday and Saturday.

A weak front should move in later in the day on Sunday for a chance of a few showers to end the weekend.
