James Ehrgott was last seen on July 7.

SPOKANE - After an unsuccessful two-day search, the Spokane Police Department is seeking the public's help in locating the body of James Ehrgott.

Detectives believe the 73-year-old man, who has not been seen since July 7, was shot and killed by John Wayne Thomson somewhere near Spokane. Thomson is in jail in Southern California, charged in the deaths of two people.

Police say Ehrgott and the 46-year-old Thomson met sometime in July. Police say Thomson revealed that he kidnapped Ehrgott from People's Park along the Spokane River in West Spokane. Authorities say Thomson shot Ehrgott and disposed of his body underneath a two-lane bridge with high grasses somewhere in the Inland Northwest.

Authorities previously thought Ehrgott's body would be found in Spokane, but are now expanding the search.

Ehrgott was last seen July 7. Investigators found his car five days later. Since then, there's been no sign of him.

Authorities will continue to search for Ehrgott's body, which they believe is now decomposed.

Thomson is also suspected in the homicide of a woman from Longview and a man from California.

Thomson was arrested in Victorville, Calif., last Monday, when he allegedly attempted a carjacking. He is now in the custody of the San Bernardino (California) County Sheriff's Office.
