Driver caught with mannequin for passenger in HOV lane

AUBURN, Wash. – What some people won't do to get a free ride in the HOV lane.

The Washington State Patrol says a trooper caught a driver trying to cheat by using a mannequin as a second occupant in the car Wednesday morning.

The trooper spotted the Honda Accord in the HOV lane on SR 167 at 37th Street NW around 8 a.m.  He noticed the passenger looked white as a ghost.

The trooper decided to stop the car to check on the passenger.  That's when he realized that passenger was actually a mannequin head tied to the head rest of the car seat with a bungee cord.

On top of that, the driver didn't have insurance.

The trooper said the 44-year-old Black Diamond man was very upset and spouted out profanities while arguing that the trooper had no reason to stop him.

The driver got a ticket for an HOV lane violation and not having insurance.
