TACOMA, Wash. - A woman, her husband and their labrador were injured after being attacked by two pit bulls in northeast Tacoma.

Jorgann Simonsen says she and her dog were out for a walk on Friday when the attack occurred. She says she saw the two pit bulls dash over from across the street and next thing she knew her and her dog were in trouble.

Simonsen says both pit bulls bit her dog and then wouldn't let go. As Simonsen tried to stop the attack, she says one pit bull turned on her, biting through a bone in her hand.

"Just like that they turned on us and started attacking," said Simonsen. "One of them in particular had my hand in his mouth and he's just gnawing at it. I'm just beating on his nose as hard as I can and he just wouldn't let go."

Simonsen's husband, Lind, was out on a bike ride and says he tried to put his bike between the family's dog and the pit bulls.

"I just starting pounding into the dogs' snout with all my might," said Lind Simonsen.

He managed to chase them off, but fractured his hand in the process. His wife also suffered a fracture and nine puncture wounds to her left hand, while Gallagher the labrador had 37 stitches after the dog's shoulder and neck were torn open.

The pit bulls have not been captured, and police and animal control are interviewing witnesses for more information. The Simonsens want anyone with information to call Tacoma police.
