Dozens protest move of Seattle's Gay Pride Parade

07:56 AM PDT on Monday, July 18, 2005

From KING Staff Reports

SEATTLE - Dozens of people turned out Sunday night to protest a plan to move Seattle's annual Gay Pride Parade and festival.

With an estimated 150,000 people showing up for this year's event in Capitol Hill, organizers are considering moving the parade to 4th Avenue and the festival to the Seattle Center. It's a plan dividing the gay community.

"When we don't change something just because of tradition, it wreaks of the marriage argument,” said one person.

“You're gonna see bashings like you never see before," argued another.

The organizing committee took no action Sunday, but the president says the group should re-consider in light of the opposition.
