SPANAWAY, Wash. - A Spanaway family has been reunited with one of its missing dogs, which had been put up for sale on Craigslist.

Cordell and Cori Hazard paid $150 to get their Great Dane from a man who paid that amount for the dog on Craigslist.

The couple said their missing dogs appeared in a for-sale ad on Craigslist and they made a plea to the Craigslist poster: Give them back - no questions asked.

But it became a case of "he said she said," the owners giving one version of events and the person who posted the ad giving another.

Cordell and Cori Hazard's dogs - Baby the Great Dane and Samson the pug - went missing. How they disappeared is a bit of a mystery.

The Hazards say last month, they went out to a movie and when they returned their dogs were gone.

"I came to open up the door and it was cracked about this much. It was wide open and there were no dogs inside," said Cordell.

"Nothing else was missing, so then I wondered, 'Did the Great Dane get the door open by nudging the handle or something,'" said Cori.

They searched the neighborhood, contacted the Humane Society and even posted ads on Craiglist.

Then Friday, there was a sign of hope. Someone posted a Craigslist ad selling a Great Dane, with what looked like Samson the pug in the background.

"My first instinct was relief and then excitement 'cause it's like, 'Oh, my God. We're going to get our dogs,'" said Cori.

That relief turned to disappointment after, Cori says, the person on the phone claimed the dog had been sold. And the pug, according to the seller, was not Samson but a friend's pet.

"I mean, how many people do you see have that kind of combination of dogs. So it's like no way. Those are our dogs," said Cordell.

Other dog lovers on Craigslist pleaded with the seller to do the right thing and give the dogs back.

"My daughter, she's 1-year-old, she misses them so much. She goes to the door with a doggie treat looking for our dog and there's no dog there!" said Cordell.

The man who posted the ad was afraid to do an interview with KING 5 because he says he's been receiving threats. He claims he found the Great Dane on the street a few months ago and gave the dog away after his landlord told him he could no longer keep it. He said he gave the dog away to a person who had a blocked number, so has no way of getting in contact with them.

The hazards still don't know what happened to their pug.

No arrests have been made because police say they have no proof a crime was committed.

If you have any information in this case, contact the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.
