KENT, Wash. - It's no secret, pets hate fireworks.

Some even get so spooked they run away.

This weekend pet detective Kat Albrecht will be partnering with the Kent Animal Shelter to offer free assistance and posters to those with missing pets.

Albrecht, of the Missing Pet Partnership, searches for animals with her canine partner Sadie. They search just as they would for a missing person.

The Lost Pet Recovery Booth will be at the Kent Animal Shelter, located at 21615 64th Ave. S., July 5-6 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The booth will provide free lost pet recovery posters, lost pet recovery tips, and hands on assistance.

This idea was born after Albrecht, a former police detective, lost her canine partner in the woods. Another search and rescue dog found her.

"Most cat owners when their cat is missing they'll post a flyer on telephone pole, drive 20 miles to a shelter to look for their cat, but not do this type of search," she said.

If you lose your pet the last thing you want to do is put an 8-by-10 black-and-white flyer up on a telephone poll. You need something big and bold with a picture right in the middle, and a description.

Albrecht says all pet owners should use her tips before writing off a lost pet. You never know where you might find them.

"The most highly likely place your pet is going to be is in your neighbor's yard, under a deck, under a house or in the bushes," Albrecht said.
