Two homes caught fire in Marysville, Wash. on Monday, June 30, 2008. Firefighters are calling it suspicious.

MARYSVILLE, Wash. – Heat and a collapsed roof injured two firefighters Monday morning while battling fires at two neighboring homes.

The fires happened in the 3800 block of 64th Avenue NE arond 9:30 a.m. It took nearly an hour to put them out.

A Marysville fire department spokesperson says the fire appears to have started on the porch of one home, and then spread to the second home.

Neighbors reported seeing lots of smoke coming from the front porch area of the home and heard popping noises before calling 911.

One firefighter suffered back and neck pain after a ceiling collapsed. The other suffered from heat exhaustion. Injuries to both firefighters are considered minor.

Nobody was hurt in either home, but a chocolate Labrador was rescued from the second home.

The Snohomish County fire marshal is assessing the damage and the cause.
